A retired educator, she passed away at 11:05 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. She was 57, a resident and native of Baton Rouge. Visiting at Nazarene Baptist Church on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by services at 11 a.m., conducted by Dr. Albert Green Jr. Interment in Southern Memorial Gardens. Survived by her husband, Reginald Simmons; mother, Esther Mae Banks; sons, Brandon Jarrell Bell, Keenan Vernell Hooks and Javier Khalil Simmons; brother, Marcus Ledell Mack; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved first husband, James Hooks; father, Clifton Mack; grandmother, Jessie Bramfield; brother, Vernell K. Haynes; and aunt, Alice Ray. She had a bachelor's degree in Speech Pathology from Southern University A&M College, Baton Rouge.
