Raymond Ross
was born in Booth, Texas on January 18, 1938 to Preston Ross and Elvira Carter. He was the eldest son for both parents.
Raymond
was baptized and began to work in St. Luke Baptist Church at an early age. His High School years began at Central High in Galveston, Texas and were filled with both football and track. He excelled at football so much, that he was heavily recruited by A. W. Mumford to attend Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Upon graduation from high school, he would in fact attend Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with an academic concentration in Health, Physical Education and Social Studies. Southern University would go on o recognize all his athletic accomplishments by placing him in the Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, he took pride in all that he did whether it be football, coaching, authoring a book, family, or church.
Raymond
joined Wesley United Methodist Church I 1965 and became a faithful and devoted member until his death.
Raymond's
life mission was to worship and serve the Lord. His work at the church was extensive and varied. He served on many committees and has held numerous positions over the years. He was a Lay Member to the Annual Conference and a member of he United Methodist Men to name a few.
Raymond
was married to Faye Brown Ross of Shreveport, Louisiana, July 14, 1960. They enjoyed forty-five wonderful years together. From this union were born four children - three daughters and one son. Raymond departed this life on April 20, 2016, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital on Essen Lane.
Raymond
is survived by two loving daughters, Rorie Ross and Rozsa Ross Brown; a son, Ruan Ross; step-mother, Bessie Lee Hicks Ross; brothers, Preston Ray Ross, Ronnie Clark Ross; sister, Rochelle Ross Neal; step-sisters; Lorene and Helen Daniels; mother-in-law, Mary Ester Brown; sister-in-laws, Gayheart Dillard, Marjorie Brown; brother-in-laws, Adolphe Brown, Wendell Neal; son-in-law, Claiborne Brown; grandsons, Correy and Carnel Brown, Ren lummer, Jalend and Jarren Hill; and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Raymond
is preceded in death by his wife, Faye Brown Ross, father- Preston Ross, Sr., mother, Elvira Carter, sister, Willie Mae Ross, father-in-law, Willie A. Brown, daughter, Ricci Ross, and cousin, Annie Britton.
