A mechanic who retired from Louisiana Machinery Co., he passed away peacefully at home Thursday, April 10, 2014. He was 82, a resident of LaPlace and a native of Woodville, Miss. Visiting at Promised Land Baptist Church on Saturday, April 19, from 8:30 a.m. until service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Perry Wrights Jr. Interment in Southern Memorial Gardens. Survived by five daughters, Donna (Larry) Anderson, Clara Dyson, Ella Rose Domino, and Renee Dyson, all of Baton Rouge, and Jessica Herbert, of Tennessee; five sons, including a devoted son, Lionel (Gloria) Herbert Sr., of Zachary, Jessie (Sarah) Herbert Jr., of Fayetteville, N.C., Nathaniel Herbert Sr., Daryl (fiancee Laura) Dyson, Real (Tyree) Dyson, all of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Hilda Blacher and Rose (Nathan Sr.) Kenney, all of Baton Rouge; two brothers, Johnnie (Desorea) Herbert, Baton Rouge, and a devoted brother and sister-in-law Thomas (Dorothy) Herbert Sr., of Baker; 36 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Frank and Rosa Herbert; son, Jessie Herbert III; two sisters, Martha Ferry and Julia Herbert; two brothers-in-law, William Blacher Sr. and Chamberlain Ferry Jr.; and a nephew, Ronald Herbert.
