Obituary

May the works I've done speak for me
May the Life I live speak for me, When I'm resting in my grave
There's nothing more to be said, May the works I've done
Let it speak for me.

Deacon Johnnie Herbert,
born July 28, 1929 in Woodville, Mississippi was one of seven (7) children born to the late Reverend Frank and Rosa Herbert.  Years later the family relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Deacon Johnnie Herbert was united in holy matrimony on June 16, 1956 to Desorea Roberts .  He was the proud father of two (2) daughters, six (6) grandchildren and nine (9) great-grandchildren.

Deacon Johnnie Herbert was called and baptized at an early age at New Light Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend N. C. Chinn.  Once Reverend Chinn was called home, he served under the late Reverend Dr. H. B. Williams where he served both spiritually and financially.  In October 1976, he became one of the original founding members and Deacons of Promise Land Baptist Church. Deacon Johnnie Herbert loved his church and Pastor, Reverend Perry Wrights, Jr.  He made many sacrifices and did whatever he could for the up-building of the church.  He remained spiritually and financially to the church.

Deacon Johnnie Herbert had over seventy (70) years of service, he retired as a butcher and a very hard worker.  He enjoyed treasure hunting and always had a word of advice for family and friends.
